Currently performing a trial of Symantec.Cloud Endpoint Protection SBE:
Some of my servers have manufacturer mandates that certain files and/or folders be excluded from realtime scanning. However, these locations definitely need to be scanned - just after hours. Examples include document imaging, interactive voice response and backup servers, all of which suffer degraded performance when realtime scanning intervenes in certain processes.
Most A/V products I've used over the years typically permit one set of exclusions for realtime scanning, and another set for scheduled/adhoc scans. This software only permits one set of exclusions that are applied to both. I considered using two AV products - one for realtime scanning and another for scheduled scans. Unfortunately, tech support says it's not possible to turn off realtime scanning and only perform scheduled scans.
The end result is that I can use Symantec.Cloud on all of my workstations and only some of my servers. Since cloud migration is a major mandate in this project, I don't have the luxury of using the local server-based version of this product that I hear does not suffer from these restrictions.
Given that both are basically cloud and server-based versions of the same product, and the client is likely the same for each, I'm surprised that this functionality hasn't yet made its way to the cloud product yet. If it is in the works, having at least a general estimate release timeframe would go a long way toward making me more comfortable investing in Symantec.Cloud in the meantime.
