Live Update Administrator (LUA) Server - Locate Distribution Centers to drive D:

Hello

In support ticket 09481624 , I raised the issue that when LUA Server C:\ drive got full, I didn't receive LUA alarm emails reminding me that the daily download/distribution task was failing.

The log analysis showed that when LUA wants to send an alert email, it first tries to write to its internal database... but if the drive where it resides is full, it fails, and hence also fails to send the email!

For servers managing large volumes of data, the good practise is to install:

- on C:\ drive  : the OS + the software & parameters ( = internal database, storing configuration/history, but not the real data)

- on D:\ , ... drives, the real large data (in this case the Download + Temp download + Distribution center root folder9.

In https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH95156.html , you describe how how to change the Download + Temp directory, AFTER installation has been performed.

My suggestions:

- in the PDF of LUA install, in the requirements of disk space, SUGGEST to use use a partition different from C:\ for the 3 data directories.

- during the installation process, propose/sugges/remind to use D:\ for Download directory (current parameter proposes C:\ currently)

- ADD in installation process the CHOICE to select where to install the root Directory of the Distribution centers, with propose/suggest/remind to use D:\

Don't hesitate to contact me if you need additional information.

Best regards.
