One of the common Email gateway features that current Symantec Messaging Gateway(SMG) lacks is the ability to replace/modify the subject line of an email that meet customer specified condition. Currently, under "content filter" action section, there are options to pre-pend or append text to email's subject line but no option to replace, clear, or modify the existing subject line.
Certain other Gateway products even allow you to remove only specific string value from inidividual emails which can be very useful in some situations.
For example, when an organization uses a keyword in subject line to trigger the email to be routed or processed differently, it's great to have that ability to remove that trigger keyword from the original email when sent to external recipients. Also, if sensitive information is present in the Email subject line and organization's DLP flags it by adding a custom header or a keyword, Email gateway should be able to clear the subject line and replace it with a generic information or a template.
Our organization still uses the older gateways (non-symantec) and cannot move away from them due to this reason. SMG's are also being used but they were originally purchased to replace the older gateways. We may need to move away from SMG's now due to this reason. I'd like to see this feature available on coming release if possible and have asked Symantec support to submit this as a feature request. I was advised to post this here by support.
