We have relied on the ability to run scans in safemode to detect possible virus that may be undetectible in normal mode. That ability has been removed with 12.1.2 and replace with running the Threat Analysis Tool. The tool is great but returns many false positives on proprietary software and doesn't allow for exclusions of that.
We run the risk of a technician inadvertantly removing a good file but mistake.
The safemode scanning was a great option when we need to scan offline.
