I am aware that Symantec can be configured to learn all applications that are installed on computers but when you have close to 10,000 clients the SQL database can become massive and we are trying to avioid this.
The different companies that I manage through a single system have many in house written applications that are detected as WS.Reputation.1 and I currently have SEP quarantining them rather then deleting. I have been whitelisting the files in the exceptions area and configurating it to totally ignore the exe files for the app. I feel pretty uncomfortable doing this as a file may actually get infected at some point but SEP would leave it alone.
My suggestion... Create a white list that exe files can be added to for reputation checks. This way it would bypass the reputation check but still go through the normal virus scan.
