Our environment has around 4300 pcs and 1200 servers. Our current client version is 14.0.3929.1200. In the process of test deploying 14.2.770.0000 I discovered that the client was being deployed without any management policies. My first clue was that the policy serial number was missing in SEPM and on the clients for only the new 14.2.770 clients. This meant the clients were checking in and could be seen in SEPM but policy changes did not reflect on the end point. I have confirmed this in several ways on several end points. I have had to cancel my deployment and remediate 60 clients by installing the previous 14.0.3929.1200 version. I will not be deploying any SEP upgrades for the remainder of the year and will be more than a little unwilling to move from the 14.0.3929.1200 version in the future. I thought managing the client through policy to be a basic function of the product. This was something I thought I did not have to question. Support has been very kind but have no solutions for this or any dates to offer for a potential fix. Please take the time to look at product testing in a more thorough way. Your customers can wait for the product versions that work the way they should.
