Currently there is no easy way to identify the duplicate ID computers or those with same computer name and different hardware ID.
1. Duplicate ID computers are cloned computers, hence they have the same client ID.
The causes reporting issues, as duplicate ID clients take turns in showing as managed clients.
We should be able to issue a command in the SEPM console (not elsewhere) and identify which they are.
Note: I am familiar with the best practices and the duplicate ID finding and repair workaround. As much as we have educated build teams, we still find that being a problem.
2. Duplicate computer names with different hardware IDs.
These are SEP clients which by some chance (hw changes, software issues, machine reboots, etc) regenerate their hardware ID. They show two or more instances with the same computer name, causing
reporting and licensing issues.
I suggest create a query in the Search Clients / Search Filter to retrieve the duplicate computer names. The output should show the duplicated computer names sorted alphabetically, online/offline status, and last timestamp so it's easy to identify and delete stale ones.
Workaround to purge stale computers by decreasing the no of days to purge clients is not feasible, we must keep a 30 days value.
Please look into these and make this possible.
Thanks!
